A look at the new adSense scrolling ads
Written by Jack on January 4, 2008 – 8:39 pmI was messing around with one of my sites that sells telecom services and makes money with Google’s adSense and happened to see the new Google Scrolling adSense in action. So I did a quick Camtasia Video that you can watch and hear one of my predictions for what is comming next. This is an interesting new function from adSense, what remains to be seen is how users will react to it.

I am going to loose some weight
Written by Jack on January 1, 2008 – 8:56 pmYou see that picture on the right, that picture is me. In fact that is an older picture from earlier this year before I went up to my current 262 pounds I am about 255 in that picture. Unfortunately I carry weight really well and that has led be to be to comfortable and get way to fat!
So with January 1, 2008 I am cutting back and loosing some weight. Neil Franklin has been foolish enough to place a bet with me on this. If on May 31st 2008 I weigh 210 or less he will be paying me 200 dollars and if I weight 211 or more I am on the hook to pay him.
I will post my new weight on the first of each month and my monthly and total weight loss. I will post an updated picture on March 1st and then one at the end. Neil is scewed, his money is mine. Yet win or loose by shedding close to or more then 52 pound this year, I will be the real winner. Most people think weight loss is hard all I will be doing is eating less in January, let’s see how that works out.

Microsoft talks about search technology for a change
Written by Jack on December 14, 2007 – 6:28 pmI can tell you I have been very disappointed by Microsoft and they online search platforms for a long time. I am not a Microsoft fanboy but I do have a ton of respect for Bill Gates and I also really want someone to toughen up and stand up as a true alternative to Google. At one time that was Yahoo but Yahoo has let more and more slip from their fingers, but hell at least they had something.
SEO Watch today though reports on an interview with Grad Conn of Microsoft talking about some pretty cool technology Microsoft is using in the area of Health Related Searches. Now I sure would like to see more things like this from Microsoft. Any way check out the article and why do you think Microsoft with massive resources can’t seem to get it right online?

Yet another reason to optimize all your pages
Written by Jack on December 7, 2007 – 9:08 pmThe Google Blog today posted about a new feature in a post called, Twice the Sitelinks. Sitelinks are as pictured on the right links to specific sub pages that appear in search results when certain searches are made. These point to very specific sub pages on the listed site that help searchers find what they need quickly.
Up until now they have displayed perhaps 4 links and now as you can see they are displaying as many as 8. To make sure this is possible it is necessary to properly tag and optimize your individual pages. A step often missed by non SEO focused hasty webmasters.
Google has also been tweaking things so that Sitelinks will appear for many more websites, and with more descriptive names. These improvements should help visitors and again is yet another reason for good site optimization.

What a creative post by Shoemoney
Written by Jack on November 25, 2007 – 9:20 pmOK I must bow before one of the master bloggers of our time, Jeremy Shoemaker and his post entitled “Things Internet Marketers can learn from Pick Up Artist“. It is just awesome I recommend you read and join in the conversation about it.
The key traits he points out are,
- Listen and Learn
- Approach Moving Targets
- Be Confident
- Make Your Visitor Feel Safe
- Be Interesting
This is one of the best posts this year in my opinion. Excellent use of video as well in my opinion.
